AIC Level 2 - Behaviour Intervention: A Positive Approach - Barrie - Oct 2011

Building on the skills acquired through the Autism Intervener Certificate Course, Level 1, participants will gain a thorough understanding of positive approaches to behavioural support and managing challenging behaviour. Content will include an in-depth review of behaviour assessment, functional analysis of behaviour, techniques for teaching appropriate alternative behaviour, using reinforcement effectively and a variety of proactive and reactive responses to challenging behaviour. Participants must have successfully completed the Autism Intervener Certificate Course, Level 1 through Geneva Centre for Autism prior to attending this course.
PLEASE NOTE: This course is designed for people who are currently supporting an individual with an ASD and will be limited to 20 participants per course. To successfully complete this course participants must attend ALL sessions and complete ALL assignments at a satisfactory level . Contingent upon this criteria participants will receive a certificate indicating they have successfully completed the Autism Intervener Certificate Course, Level 2 - Behaviour Intervention: A Positive Approach from Geneva Centre for Autism.- Building on the skills acquired through the Autism Intervener Certificate Course: Level 1, participants will develop an extensive understanding of the challenges and needs related to social skills and social understanding for individuals with an autism spectrum disorder. Participants will learn how to apply this knowledge and explore assessment tools, social thinking and context blindness, intervention strategies, bullying, and peer mediated social skills.
Each participant will be required to complete a Social Skills Assessment Profile on an individual with ASD and select goals and strategies to address the development of a specific social skill. Additionally, participants will be required to also complete a bullying assessment and indicate how they would begin to implement a peer empathy building program specific to ASD.
